Just about anything sold \u2013 and fast. But now, there are far more homes on the market. Listings are up\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/research\/september-2025-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">almost 20%<\/a> from this time last year. And in some areas, supply is even back to levels we last saw in 2017\u20132019. For sellers, that means one thing: Why Some Homes Sell Quickly \u2013 and Others Don\u2019t Sell at All<\/p>\n<p><strong>Your house needs to stand out and grab attention from day one.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s especially true when you consider\u00a0<em>why\u00a0<\/em>the number of homes for sale<em>\u00a0<\/em>is up. Available inventory is a mix of:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Active Listings:<\/strong>\u00a0homes that have been sitting on the market, but haven\u2019t sold yet<\/li>\n<li><strong>New Listings:<\/strong>\u00a0homes that were just put on the market<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.realtor.com\/research\/September-2025-data\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Data<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0<em>Realtor.com<\/em>\u00a0shows most of the inventory growth lately is actually from active listings that are staying on the market and taking longer to sell (<em>see the graph below<\/em>).<\/p>\n<p>The blue bars show active listings. These are the homes that are sitting month to month and not selling. The green bars are new listings, the homes that were just put on the market.
